Welcome to Muddy Creek Pottery!
Hello! I’m Cherie, the potter behind Muddy Creek Pottery.
My love for clay began in high school when I took my first class on the potter’s wheel—and I fell in love immediately. While becoming a professional potter didn’t feel like a realistic path at the time, I followed another passion and earned a degree in education. I spent years as an elementary school teacher and later as the director of a childcare center.
But my love for working with clay never faded. I continued to seek out pottery classes whenever I could, always finding my way back to the wheel—back to the simple, grounding rhythm of working with mud and water.
In 2020, a shift in perspective during COVID reminded me that life is too short not to pursue the things that truly light you up. I made the leap, left my director position, and committed to making pottery full time. I haven’t looked back. My basement became my studio, a place where muddy hands, spinning clay, and quiet creative moments now fill my days.
Throwing on the wheel has always been my first love in pottery, but over time I’ve also fallen deeply in love with carving clay. I draw inspiration from the outdoors—mountain ridges, winding creeks, shifting textures, and the imperfect beauty found in nature. These days, I struggle to make a plain pot; I feel compelled to carve, paint, or add layered glazes to every piece I create.
My goal is to make pottery that feels at home in everyday life—pieces meant to be held, used, and enjoyed. I hope each piece carries a sense of calm and connection to the natural world, bringing a small moment of joy to daily routines.
I am endlessly grateful for the support of my family, friends, mentors, and customers, and I can’t wait to see where this journey continues.
